Second Smiley for Bronovo23 augustus 2011
Bronovo Hospital received a second Smiley from the “Child and Hospital Foundation (Stichting Kind en Ziekenhuis)” for the maternity ward Amalia, which was completely renovated. This quality mark was awarded for the family-oriented care and because the Bronovo maternity ward meets all of the set criteria. The national foundation bestows the Smiley quality mark on hospitals that distinguish themselves by offering quality care for parents and children.

| President of the Child and Hospital Foundation Inge Harkema (2nd from the left) awarded the Smiley to the Bronovo maternity ward. | “We received the first Smiley in 2008 for the Bronovo Willem-Alexander paediatric ward. Now the Amalia maternity ward has also received a Smiley for our family-oriented care and because we meet all the child-centred criteria set by the Foundation”, according to Jeannette Verwoerd, unit head for the maternity ward. Maternity ward Amalia has 16 single rooms, that all offer the possibility of 'rooming in'. This means the baby stays in the room with the mother day and night. If desired, the partner can stay the night with mother and child, and is free to visit at any time. Also, the maternity ward and incubator ward are located close to each other, and epidural analgesia during delivery (commonly known as an ‘epidural’) is available 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The Bronovo maternity ward has also received the WHO/UNICEF certificate from the “Care for Breastfeeding Foundation (Stichting Zorg voor borstvoeding)” and offers breastfeeding support by a lactation expert.
Anja van Wel, cluster manager: “The Smiley awarded for the completely renovated Bronovo maternity ward and the family-oriented care we provide is the crowning achievement, a reward for the efforts of our entire team on the ward.”
The national Child and Hospital Foundation has been actively working to improve child welfare before, during and following admission to hospital since 1977. The foundation wants to encourage hospitals by awarding them an honour: the Smiley. The quality mark can be obtained by paediatric, day treatment and maternity wards. Bronovo offers parents to watch baby 24 hours per day via a webcam 29 March 2010
Since March Bronovo has offered a new service: live viewing of your baby 24 hours a day. Parents whose baby has been admitted to Bronovo will be able to watch their baby 24 hours a day using the Bronovo baby webcam via a secure internet connection.
Parents whose baby has been admitted to the hospital do not like to leave their child there alone, but it is also not possible to spend every minute of the day with their baby. This service allows these parents to see live images 24 hours a day - wherever they have internet access - of their child in the incubator or cot via the Bronovo baby webcam. The images are live and cannot be saved or stored. The camera has not been fitted with a microphone, meaning that the images are not accompanied by sound. More information |
Patient organisations give Bronovo recognition for its colon cancer care 24 March 2010
Bronovo has received recognition from various cooperative cancer patient organisations for the quality of care given to patients with colon cancer (colorectal carcinoma). With this recognition the cancer patient organisations demonstrate that Bronovo completely meets all the quality requirements that these organisations have set.
The patient organisations Stichting Doorgang (Foundation for people with cancer of the digestive tract), Polyposis Contact Group, HNPCC-Lynch Association, the Dutch Stoma Association and the Dutch Federation of Cancer Patient Organisations (NFK) have tested Bronovo on the care for patients with colon cancer based on 15 stipulations. The tests revealed that Bronovo meets all the set quality requirements and performs well on the aspects that are important to the patient organisations.
A patient guide was set up using these criteria. The patient guide provides information about the quality of care, such as responsibility, multidisciplinary cooperation in the hospital and with general practitioners and home care and optimal support given to patients during the treatment, consultations and follow-up care.
